Vivian Maier, born 1926 in New York, was an amateur street photographer. As her works became prominent after her death in 2009, many details of her life are unknown. Nevertheless, it was known that she was raised in France but later moved back to United States. She worked as a nanny in Chicago, and would often roam the streets in the city, taking photographs during her free time.
From 1959 onwards, She also visited and took photographs interstate, visiting the American Southwest and Los Angeles, California. Additionally, She also visited and took photographs internationally, with photographs of Italy, Egypt and Thailand prominent within her works.
Her works were discovered by John Maloof in 2007, however it was not until after her death in 2009, where her works began to be recognised on a wider scale. She took over 100,000 photographs in her lifetime.
